Support for the Big Feelings They Can’t Always Name

Growing up isn’t easy.

Between school stress, social struggles, changing moods, or quiet withdrawal—it can be hard to tell what your child or teen is going through. And even harder to know how to help.

Whether your child is acting out, shutting down, or simply not feeling like themselves, we’re here to help them find their voice—and help you feel less alone in supporting them. At Thrive Postpartum, Couples, and Family Therapy, we provide a safe, supportive space for kids and teens to understand their emotions, learn tools to cope, and build confidence.

When Something Feels “Off”

Kids and teens don’t always have the words to explain what they’re feeling. You might notice changes in their mood, behavior, sleep, or social habits. Maybe your once-chatty child has grown distant, or your teen is struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, or outbursts that come out of nowhere.

Whether it’s everyday stress, big transitions like a move or divorce, academic pressure, bullying, or something deeper, therapy can help.

We specialize in supporting children and adolescents through the ups and downs of growing up. Our therapists work closely with both kids and parents to identify what’s going on beneath the surface and guide families toward understanding, growth, and healing.

Therapy for kids and teens can help with:

Emotional Regulation: Learning to identify and cope with big feelings like anger, anxiety, or sadness.

Behavioral Challenges: Managing outbursts, defiance, impulsivity, or acting out at school or home.

Social Issues: Navigating friendships, peer pressure, bullying, or feeling left out.

Family Transitions: Adjusting to changes such as divorce, remarriage, new siblings, or moving.

Anxiety and Depression: Recognizing signs of worry, withdrawal, or low self-worth.

Self-Esteem and Identity: Building confidence and helping teens explore who they are.

A Space Where They Can Just Be Themselves

We meet kids and teens where they are—whether that’s on the floor with a coloring book or talking about their day while playing a game. We use developmentally appropriate, evidence-based approaches like play therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), expressive arts, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)—which we can adapt for children as young as 3—to help them process their emotions in a way that feels natural.

For teens, we focus on helping them build emotional insight, healthier coping strategies, and stronger relationships—with themselves, their families, and others around them. We also involve parents and caregivers when appropriate, so everyone feels informed and empowered.

At Thrive, we take a trauma-informed, compassionate approach to care. We know that feeling heard, seen, and safe is essential for healing—and we’re here to support that every step of the way.

    Therapy That Grows With Them

In sessions, your child or teen will have space to talk, express, and explore at their own pace. For younger kids, therapy might look like play-based activities that help them express what words can’t. For teens, it may involve more direct conversations about stressors, goals, and emotional struggles.

Parents are often part of the process too—whether it’s checking in on progress, learning tools to support your child at home, or understanding how to navigate tough moments together.

Over time, therapy helps kids and teens build emotional resilience, feel more confident in who they are, and develop the tools they need to handle life’s challenges—now and in the future.

      What a Session is Like

During the intake process, we begin with a thorough assessment to understand your child or teen’s emotional, behavioral, and social experiences. We typically start by meeting with the parent or caregiver to gather background information, including developmental history, family dynamics, school performance, and any recent changes or concerns. Depending on the child’s age and comfort level, we then meet individually with your child or teen to begin building rapport and exploring their perspective in a safe, age-appropriate way.

This comprehensive approach helps us see the full picture—not just the behaviors on the surface, but the emotions and stressors driving them. From there, we work collaboratively with both the child and the family to develop a personalized treatment plan that supports emotional growth, improves communication, and strengthens coping skills. Whether we’re addressing anxiety, behavior challenges, or family stress, our goal is to help your child feel understood, supported, and empowered to thrive.
